I can’t go very long without a good Bliss read. For this fan of the contemporary romance genre, they are necessary to my monthly reading list. Her Backup Boyfriend had everything that I love about a Bliss book.
Kate is a hardworking attorney with a dream of becoming a partner at the law firm she’s been working at for the past five years. She’s worked hard to get where she’s at and has overcome a lot in her lifetime. She didn’t come from money & was raised by her grandmother, but persevered in order to make a name for herself. When the opportunity for her to possibly make the partnership, her boss makes it clear that the board looks for those who have a well rounded home and work life. For Kate, who is single and works hours upon hours on her job, a well rounded home life for her involves her and her cat. However, her next door neighbor seems to have different plans for her and introduces Kate to Dominic, her very attractive and handy nephew.
Dominic has dreams of being an architect, but pushes aside his own dreams to help with the family business after his dad falls ill. When he meets Kate, he is instantly attracted to her fiery red hair & personality. He learns that Kate needs help with restorations in her new house & agrees to help her if she helps him…
Even though Dominic and Kate make their arrangement to benefit each other, they aren’t quite expecting the outcome that comes from it. The chemistry between these two is most definitely there. I love the build up between these two, it’s not instant, but grows and changes as the characters grow and change.
The family dynamic is a strong aspect of this book and one that I really enjoy. I love Dominic’s family & how they support and love one another. I can’t wait to read more about the Sorensen’s.
You’re sure to fall in love with the Sorensen family, I know I sure did!
Four out of five stars.
