A girl looking to escape her past in New York City ends up on the run from a dangerous conspiracy in this sizzling, high-stakes novel.

When seventeen-year-old Liva came to New York City, all she wanted was to escape the painful memories of her past and finally find a fresh start. Her hopes for a new future were dashed the moment she became the sole witness to a brutal murder. When she’s taken into police custody—supposedly for her own protection—she realizes something isn’t right, but it’s too late. Soon, bullets start flying, and Liva realizes that she is not just a witness, but the target—and she needs to escape before it’s too late.

With the help of a sexy car thief that she met at the station, Liva manages to get away from the massacre unharmed, but now the two of them are alone in New York, trying to outrun and outwit the two killers who will stop at nothing to find them. Liva and Jay are living on the edge, but when you’re on the edge, there’s a long way to fall.

I received a digital copy from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I was hooked the moment I started reading this book! Out of Control is an amazingly complex book that leaves you gripping the book, unable to put it down until you know exactly how it is going to end.

I found myself captivated with Sarah Alderson’s style of writing last summer after I read her book, The Sound. So, there was no doubt in my mind that I would want to read more from her. Out of Control did not let me down & only added fuel to the fire for me to want to read more of her books.

Alderson is an author that I believe doesn’t get the attention she deserves. Her ability to write stories that leaves the reader hooked from the start is inspiring & something I, as a reader, truly enjoys. I love when I find myself having an inner battle to put a book down to get other things done. Her books are the kind that you think about even when you’re not reading them.

Now, back to the book. . .

Out of Control is about two completely different people who meet in a disastrous situation that leaves them both running for their lives. Liva is a witness to the murder of the people she was staying with while her father is out of town. She is taken to a police station for questioning where she meet Jay, who is being booked on grand theft auto charges. That’s when all hell breaks loose. When the police station goes under attack, Liva and Jay manage to escape & begin running for their lives. When they think their day can’t get any worse…it does.

You’ll have to read it to see what I mean.

I had so much fun reading Out of Control. The whole book ran through my head in an array of colorful images. It’s such an action-packed book, yet completely perfectly paced. The development of the story is never dull & the growth of the characters, both individually & together, is something that I found exciting. I also really enjoyed the spotlight Alderson shines on human trafficking, which is something that many choose to turn the other cheek on. I love that something so prominent and that doesn’t get much attention from most, is brought to the surface for those who decide to read this book.

I can’t wait to read more from Sarah Alderson! I hope you enjoy her books as much as I do.

Five stars.

Oohh, so happy to hear of another person reading The Sound! I really enjoyed it. You’ll have to let me know your thoughts once you finish.

      Thank you. 🙂
