The heartrending conclusion—from Willem’s POV—to the romantic duet of novels that began with Allyson’s story in Just One Day
After spending an amazing day and night together in Paris, Just One Year is Willem’s story, picking up where Just One Day ended. His story of their year of quiet longing and near misses is a perfect counterpoint to Allyson’s own as Willem undergoes a transformative journey, questioning his path, finding love, and ultimately, redefining himself.
After reading Just One Day, the anticipation I had to know what happened next left me with a massive book hangover. Usually, I am a very patient person, but when it comes to books, my patience tends to get tested….a lot. After much anticipation, Just One Year finally arrived and it did not disappoint. I haven’t read a Gayle Forman book that didn’t leave me thirsting for more.
What a journey Gayle took us on along side Willem! His journey to find love, happiness, and himself was profound and one I loved being apart of. What I loved most about Just One Year is that it didn’t focus solely on the one day Willem and Allyson spent together, but on the effects that one day had on his life.
It’s a profound read and one that really allows you to look at your own life in a new light. I won’t lie, at first I missed having Willem and Allyson together, but the more I read, the more I realized just how much I enjoyed getting to know more about Willem and his life. Willem has been by far my favorite male POV to read! Seeing the world through his eyes was a fascinating journey and one that I am sure to visit again and again. The “accidents“, “what ifs“, and the search for double happiness gave me ALL THE FEELS!
And the last two pages? COME ON! The anticipation I felt leading up to this one moment was abundant and then…it’s over?!?! Ahhh! I wanted to know what happened next! Of course, I still loved the book and had a silly smile on my face after closing the book. You can bet I’ll soon be diving into recently released novella, Just One Night, to find out what happened next for Willem and Allyson.
5 out of 5 stars!
