A Books for a Cause Update




Last week, exactly one month after my aunt passed away from cancer, I launched Books for a Cause. I am so overwhelmed and thankful by the amount of support authors and fellow bloggers have shown me. This project truly is from my heart and one that I hope is a success and one that I can do each year to support cancer research.

If this is the first you are hearing about Books for a Cause, please take a moment to read my initial post. In the post, I share my story and the reason I am doing this. All proceeds will go to benefit Stand Up 2 Cancer.

I am currently teaming up with Tonya from Lily Bloom books to organize a silent auction. Thanks to the generosity of authors and fellow bloggers, we have a great list of donated items coming it that you can bid on. Again, 100% of the money raised through this auction will go directly to the Stand Up 2 Cancer fundraising page I have set up. Of course, there is still time to donate items! So, if you’re an author, blogger, or all around book lover and have something you wish to contribute, please feel free to contact me via email.

Since we are still in the process of gathering donations and organizing them as we get them, the auction date is To Be Determined. Our hope it to launch it no later than mid-July. 

Another part of the Books for a Cause fundraiser is a Read-A-Thon. This is a more recent addition and a fun was for kids to get involved as well. Right now, there is an online sign-up form that asks for you to provide me with your email. I will then be sending out an email with the pledge sheet as well as some other information a few days before the read-a-thon is to begin.

How does it work?

Once you sign-up and receive your pledge form, you will then fill out the portion of the form that says,
“I ___________ pledge to read ____ books from June 29 – July 12.”

You will then ask friends, family, whoever to donate $1 for each book that you read during that time period.

The pledge form has a place for their name and email. I am asking for their email so I can personally thank them for their donation as well as provide them with the direct link to the Stand Up 2 Cancer page where they can complete their donation.

I am so excited for this fundraiser and completely humbled by all of the support people have shown me since launching this project a week ago.

My goal is to raise $2,000 and there are 3 ways I hope to meet this goal.
1) The Books for a Cause Auction
(Official date TBA)

2) The Read-A-Thon
(June 29-July 12)

3) And of course, if you do not wish to participate either of the two events mentioned above, but wish to make a donation, you can go to the fundraising page directly.

Of course, I appreciate anyone willing to help me spread the word about this project, whether it be via Twitter, Facebook, or another form of social media. I’ve created the hashtag, #BooksForACause, to be used so feel free to add it to your Tweets or Facebook posts.
