A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

WHOA. SO not what I was expecting! I mean….WOW! It’s been awhile since I’ve found myself engrossed in a book and left a little tattered on the inside. I can’t help but use the words whimsical and elegance when describing this book. This was my very first book by E. Lockhart and I can tell you right now that it most certainly won’t be my last.
I finished this book last week and typically write my reviews soon after reading, but I’ve been struggling with just how I felt about this book. In a good way though! I had seen a few fellow bloggers talking about how much of the FEELS they got when reading this book, but didn’t allow myself to read their reviews. I went in completely blind and I don’t regret it one bit. Honestly, I highly recommend that you do just that for this particular book. It’s suspenseful and not at all what I was expecting and I loved that about this book.
The suspense will consume you and leave you struggling to put it down. Unfortunately, for me, I had to force myself to put it down due to my daily schedule, but as soon as I was able – right back to reading I went. We Were Liars is a heartbreaking, roller coaster-of-a-ride type read that’ll leave your jaw on the floor. Especially when a specific turn of events takes place. Seriously, I’m not going to go there. JUST READ IT.
E. Lockhart has created a beautifully unique piece of writing that’ll leave her readers grasping onto every suspenseful word.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
