Writing Wednesday|Past Recap of my Novel and a Look at its Future

Writing Wednesday Banner

In 2013, I resurrected a cold case…….my novel.

I got the idea and gave birth to my novel six long years ago. So referring to it as a work in progress is a bit of an understatement. The birth of my fourth child and various other life hurdles and dramas had ceased its forward progress. Somehow, I managed to come up for creative air this past year, and have been able to hold the karmic demons at bay long enough to begin again. And I literally did begin again. I came up with the basic idea for my story, and free wrote about 50 pages way back when, but I hadn’t completed my full story map/outline of the novel. And five years later, the words that I hashed out in its infancy were an ill fit, so I kept the spirit of the writing, but scrapped the words and began again.

I now have a complete story arc for my novel. I have hammered out my main plot, and two subplots. With the help of a very dear friend, it even has a title. If you’ve read my other Writing Wednesdays, I’ve already confessed my anal obsession with titles. With the help of that same friend, I refer to him as my Alpha Beta, just this week he let me use his brain to collaborate and map out the structure of how my story will be told. I smell a dedication page for him.

And of course, this year, I’ve written scene after scene after scene. Still, I’m only about a quarter of the way done.

My plans for 2014? I still have a little research to complete that is holding up certain scenes of the novel. I will knock this out first and foremost, and I will no longer have any mechanics impeding the creative process.

At the suggestion of a YouTube video by the great Victoria Schwab, I am making a writing accountability calendar, so it’s etched out in black and white how much writing I get accomplished every day.

I will write EVERY DAY.

I will finish this novel by SUMMER 2014.

It will be picked up for publication before the end of 2014.

So there. I’ve put it in writing, and so it must be. Feel free to help me with this accountability thing, dear blog followers!

What are your writing resolutions for 2014?

Happy Writing.
