It is no secret that both Christie & I adore Cassandra Clare. Her books are what really started our friendship. And when Christie shoved the first three Mortal Instruments books in my face, it was a match made in book heaven. So when we put our heads together to come up with our BEST of 2013 read, there was no doubt in our minds that it was….

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.
Released on March 19, 2013

18335634Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Tessa Gray should be happy – aren’t all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.

A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, will do anything to save her.

Clockwork Princess is the heart wrenching conclusion to Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices trilogy. It’s no wonder that we chose this book as our favorite read of 2013, it has everything that makes a book both phenomenal and unforgettable. Clare’s writing is amazing in the fact that she can so vividly portray fantasy in a way that makes it feel as though she were discussing the mundane realities of the real world. She infuses these characters so deep within your soul that their joys are you joys and their sorrows are your sorrows, long after the covers of the book are closed. We have never been as endeared with a series as as have with The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. And though we love both for their own merit we would both have to agree that The Infernal Devices is the bigger roller coaster of emotions out of the two: the highs take you high, the lows bring you low, but by the end of the ride all is as it should be, leaving you anxious for your next turn.
We both have funny stories about finishing this book in the middle of the night – 2am ugly snot crying with an inability to express our heartache to another living soul.

My book club just got Shatter Me! I’m excited to start the series, too. I think my favorite book this year has been In The Shadow of Blackbirds. It was awesome.

Reboot by Amy Tintera, Pivot Point by Kasie West, Altered by Jennifer Rush, Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins, The Collector & The Liberator by Victoria Scott, Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken, Taken by Erin Bowman, Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, The Program by Suzanne Young. I should probably stop now but this year was good book wise. Thank you so much. I love the theme of this giveaway and all the choices. Happy Holiday!

WOW! Those are some great reads. I haven’t read Reboot yet, but I plan on it! And you’re right. So many great books this year and next year sounds like it’ll be just as good, book wise!
Happy Holidays to you as well!

It is impossible to name just one, so I will just go with my most recent. The final book in The Immortal Empire trilogy by Kate Locke, Long Live the Queen. Absolutely wonderful series!
