Debut Author Bash | Interview & Giveaway with Amy Butler Greenfield

Debut Authors Bash at yareads.com

I am so excited to be taking part in the 2013 Debut Author Bash hosted by the fabulous ladies of YAreads. I am so excited to be hosting the author of Chantress, Amy Butler Greenfield.
I read Chantress back in April after receiving a copy via Goodreads and immediately found myself wrapped up in the enchanted world Amy created. I can’t wait to read what happens next when the next installment comes out May 2014.
You can read my review of Chantress HERE.
(Please excuse the formatting – this post was before I switched to
WordPress so the format is a little messed up.)

Chantress
And now our interview with Amy Butler Greenfield!

  • 1. Where did your inspiration for Chantress come from?
I just suddenly knew that I wanted to write a story about a spymaster, a ruby, and a lost girl.  And as soon as I stopped to think about it, I knew that the girl would work magic by singing.  It’s a bit spooky the way ideas come out of thin air like that!  But the story also draws on lots of real-world experiences I’ve had:  a summer by the sea, walks along the Thames, visits to the Tower of London, and the singing groups I’ve belonged to.
  • 2. Who did you enjoy writing more, Lucy or Nat?
I especially enjoyed writing scenes where they were together! I had a good sense of who Lucy was from the beginning, but Nat was much more of a mystery, and it was exciting to learn more about him as I wrote.
  • 3. I know some people have writing habits, do you? If so, what are they?
I wish I were a coffee-shop writer because it sounds like so much fun to go off to a café to write.  But the truth is that I do my best writing at home, at the same table I’ve been using for years.  Give me my laptop and a cup of tea, and I’m ready to go.  Though a little dark chocolate always helps, too.
  • 4. What words of wisdom do you have for aspiring authors?
Be yourself.  Write the book that only you can write.
  • 5. If you weren’t an author, what would you be?
Depending on what day you ask me, a dessert chef, a weaver, a dyer, a librarian… and almost certainly I’d be a closet writer, too.
Thanks so much for having me on Turning Pages!

Thank you, Amy, for allowing us to host you!
